METROPOLII is an innovative board game developed at the Silesian University of Technology by the URBANMODEL student association, which immerses players in the world of urban challenges, strategy, and sustainable development. Players take on the roles of urban planners and city managers, with the goal of creating the best-functioning and most resident-friendly metropolis. During the game, you will make decisions regarding infrastructure, transportation, energy, environmental protection, and budgeting. Every choice has its consequences – both social and economic. The game enhances analytical skills, teaches systems thinking, and introduces concepts related to spatial planning and smart cities.

METROPOLII is a game for young people, students, and all enthusiasts of modern cities. It is perfect as an educational tool but also works well as an engaging social game.

METROPOLII is an innovative board game developed at the Silesian University of Technology by the URBANMODEL student association, which transports players into the world of urban challenges, strategy, and sustainable development. Players assume the roles of urban planners and city managers, aiming to create the most well-functioning and resident-friendly metropolis. During the game, you will make decisions about infrastructure, transportation, energy, environmental protection, and budgeting. Each decision has consequences – both social and economic. The game develops analytical skills, teaches systems thinking, and introduces concepts related to spatial planning and smart cities.

The game is designed for audiences of all ages. It offers a classic card game, assembling a metropolis map like a puzzle, supports orientation, and includes quizzes and board games that introduce knowledge about the GZM (Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis). The cards refer to real locations that can be experienced in the form of 3D models, also using augmented reality. Each card refers to an actual location and represents values of characteristic urban indicators: area, population density, amount of green space, and others. THE GAME IN THE GZM METROPOLIS demonstrates its potential while also educating in a fun way.
The board game allows players to navigate the GZM Metropolis, invest in selected locations, and use highway and velostrada connections between locations to shorten their travel (analogous to the best-connected metropolis in Poland). The board game contains virtual quizzes at 3 different difficulty levels. The quizzes test knowledge about the metropolis, as well as Silesia and local traditions. The goal of the game is to create your own metropolis, as green and sustainable as possible.

The pawns are 3D prints representing selected locations. They depict recognizable places in cities with county rights: Spodek, KTW office buildings, the Planetarium, the Market Square in Gliwice, the Sun Gate in Tychy, the Water Tower in Zabrze, and many others.

Included in the set: Board (folded into 4 A3-sized parts), 14 pawns, 2 dice, property markers, fund tokens, instructions.
